Team Holmatro will compete in the Extreme 40 Grand Prix Series during the Volvo Ocean Race 2008/09. Carolijn Brouwer is back on the helm, after having finished her Tornado campaign for Belgium. The rest of the crew is to be appointed soon.
“On debut in the Volvo Ocean Race 2005/06, the Extreme 40 class put up a great show during the stopovers”, said Jaap Meijer, CEO of Holmatro. “However, syndicates and organizers had to be convinced about the strength of the Grand Prix Series as entertainment program. Since then, the class has grown in numbers, quality and professionalism. We are looking forward to support our team in showing the world once again the potential of spectacular multihull racing on Extreme 40 catamarans.
These boats are fast, competitive and thrilling to watch. They bring the sport of sailing so much closer to the general public.
In addition, it is still a rewarding sponsorship for Holmatro: “Our participation causes positive publicity in general, but it also gives us the opportunity to test new product developments at a high level. Another feature is the fantastic hospitality possibilities. We can offer our guests a unique experience.’
Holmatro is no stranger to the sailing circuit having maintained a close and successful association with the Dutch raced Grand Soleil 44. Building on that relationship the company will supply the Extreme 40 fleet with hydraulic mainsheet systems and custom designed winches.
