Henri Lloyd Capitalise on Caffari Partnership

How do you let cruising sailors know that the gear that they buy is going to work in any conditions? Use racing as the platform to showcase research and development. Then use ‘congratulatory advertising’ to make the most of team partner achievements. Dee Caffari’s technical clothing partner, Henri Lloyd, show how it is done…

Dee’s technological clothing requirements were extremely specific, with Dee and Henri Lloyd having worked extremely hard together since the start of their partnership to ensure that she would be safe and comfy and also protected from the extreme elements that she had to endure in one of the worlds toughest sailing races.

Certain bespoke technical garments were designed for Dee with the use of new technology, research and development, which will in turn benefit future Henri Lloyd customers.

For the fundamental protection against wind and water, Dee wore Henri Lloyd’s Gore-Tex Ocean Smock and Hi-fits, both of which were designed and manufactured specifically for Dee, which therefore provided a more ergonomic and flexible fit. Additional special design features were also added including the use of latex or neoprene neck and cuff seals, which prevented against freezing water rushing down her neck and sleeves on wave impact.

As her base layer, Dee wore a collection of products from the Henri Lloyd Atmosphere 360 Women’s range. In particular whilst in the colder conditions the ‘Core’ thermal collection and during the warmer parts of the race the Fast-Dri Featherweight collection. Both collections are highly breathable and extremely high wicking, whilst also offering UV protection to help prevent sunburn, another important feature of the Core and Fast Dri garment are their silver ion antimicrobial technology, which helped reduce the build up of bacteria and the resulting odour.

Paul Strzelecki; Henri Lloyd Joint Chief Executive:

“We are so proud of Dee and have been following her race closely over the past 3 months, as a company we have been inspired by the challenges she has faced in the race and look forward to welcoming her home”.

Dee Caffari:

“I am thrilled to have crossed the finish line of the Vendée Globe and secure a double world record. I was fortunate to have Henri Lloyd as my clothing partner for the duration of the Aviva Ocean Racing campaign and have been delighted with the performance of the technical clothing supplied for the race. As you can imagine, being warm and dry when you are at sea for 90 days is pretty key to your physical and mental wellbeing and I am pleased to say that my kit really did stand up to the test.”

Henri Lloyd has over 45 years experience in the manufacture of technical marine clothing, and prides themselves on their innovative designs and use of pioneering fabrics.
