Qtel Sponsor Al Murqab Sailing Team


Qtel has announced that it will be the Official Sponsor of the Al Murqab Sailing Team, the first private sailing team in Qatar. The partnership was announced at a special ceremony held at Qtel headquarters attended by representatives of Al Murqab Sailing Team and Qtel.

In its role as sponsor, Qtel will provide material and technological support for the team, which is developing a significant local and regional reputation in the exciting world of competitive sailing.

As Qatar’s leading communications provider, Qtel manages the maritime telecommunications infrastructure that enables competitive sailing in the waters around Qatar, so the sponsorship connection provides a natural fit with Al Murqab’s plans for development.

Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Thani, Executive Director, Group Human Resources, Qtel, said:

“Sailing is a very important sport for the Qatari people, and we have watched the Al Marqab team’s progress in recent years with great interest and pride. Qtel is a major supporter of all sports in Qatar, and we are very pleased to be providing material and technological support for competitive sailing.”

Al Murqab Sailing Team was established in 2003 and the team has since participated and won several local championships, including like The Heir Apparent Sailing Championship. The team has also participated in championships in the UAE and across the region.

As part of the sponsorship agreement, Qtel’s logo will be featured on the crew’s uniforms, as well as emblazoned at the team’s sailing boats and equipment. With the Al Murqab Sailing Team set to compete in a range of competitions in the coming months, this positioning will take the Qtel brand across local, regional and international markets. There are even plans in place to film a documentary on the Team, set to be broadcast later in the year.
