  • I will be the Press Officer for the annual Round the Island Race next year, representing the Island Sailing Club who run the event. I plan to discuss us setting up an official Twitter feed to cover the day's news. There is currently a truly excellent Race Progress section on the RTI website – I know because I helped to produce it yesterday from some ungodly hour to some other ungodly hour!

We were delivering up to the minute news to a worldwide audience for the duration of the race. I'd like to think we could also replicate this 'as live' reportage using Twitter in 2010.

Meanwhile thanks for being with us yesterday!

  • I thought the live text coverage was pretty good. Considering the distances involved and the sheer number of boats to keep track of, it was a great effort. Sailing and iphones don't go to well together – tend to get wet and stop working so mine was buried in a waterprrof bag all day, else I would have been tweeting. Thought there would be more specators though!

  • A year is a long time in the digital world. I hear that video upload capabilities are coming. I was using uber-twitter – a client for the blackberry that makes it really simple to upload images and integrate position from GPS, though sometimes not too acurate.

An 'official' twitter feed would be good along with a recognised #tag – some people were using #rti and #jpmorganrti yesterday which gave a good sense of what was going on in the twitterverse. It's a great race and new media innovations can only help promote it to a wider audience.
