The America’s Cup has traditionally set the benchmark for sailing when it comes to innovation and best practise. Advances in hull design, rigging, electronics and sailmaking technology all have flow on effects for ‘normal’ sailors later.
AC33 is no different. The teams that are a beacon to the sailing world have shown that the most important resource that a sailor can have is a lawyer. Perhaps that’s why Darren Beazley has announced that Australian commercial law firm Middletons will be the exclusive legal services sponsor to the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships.
Mr Beazley said:
“An Event the size of what the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships will be, with in excess of 1,500 competing athletes and hundreds of thousands of live spectators, obviously brings with it the need for sound legal advice, guidance and leadership of the highest order. Having Middletons on board as exclusive legal services sponsor will help the Perth 2011 team ensure the highest legal standards are implemented for the Event”
Echoing BMW ORACLE spokesman Tom Ehman, Beazley’s statement goes on to say that legal services are not ancillary – in fact they have a positive effect on the event. He says:
“Middletons’ ongoing advice and support ahead of and during the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships will assist us in making the Event one to remember.”
